Republic Day A Historic Day Of India
Republic means, the rule for the people by side the people. The system, as we celebrate the Republic Day.
Though India became a free nation on August 15, 1947, it declared itself a Sovereign, Democratic and Republic state with the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950.
A salute of 21 guns and the unfurling of the Indian National Flag by Dr. Rajendra Prasad heralded the historic birth of the Indian Republic on that day. Thereafter 26th of January was decreed a national holiday and was recognised as the Republic Day of India.
The Constitution gave the citizens of India the power to choose their own government and paved the way for democracy. Dr. Rajendra Prasad took oath as the first President of India at the Durbar Hall in Government House.
26 Jan is the Glorious Historical Day of India. Ever the Republic day(historic day) is celebrated with festivities and patriotic enthusiasm in whole country.
The day owes its importance to the constitution of India that was adopted on this day. India became independent from the British Rule on 15th August, 1947. The India country did not have its own constitution and totally depended on the modified colonial Government of India Act, 1935 India was headed by King George VI, until the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950. The independence was achieved in 1947 while the professed pledge was redeemed on 26th January, 1950. The Indian Constituent Assembly was called together on 9th December, 1946, where a committee was formed. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar(Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer) became the chairman of the committee, who along with the other members drafted the Constitution. The Indian Constitution included 395 Articles and 8 Schedules. The Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November, 1949. Next, elections were held:  Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected as the first President of India. This transition of India into a sovereign democratic republic nation is indeed a long historical event. Today, the Indian Constitution is the longest in the world, consisting of 397 articles and 12 schedules, and providing a single citizenship for the whole nation. It was this day in history in 1965 when Hindi was declared as the official language of India. At 10:18 AM on the 26th of January, 1950, the Constitution came into a legal circulation. It is definitely impossible for someone to read it in one go.
Republic Day is celebrated every year with much zeal all over the country and to mark the importance of this occasion, a grand parade is held in the capital New Delhi. The military parade is followed by a colorful cultural parade. India’s rich cultural heritage is depicted in the form of tableaus from various states. Each state depicts its unique festivals, historical locations and art. This exhibition of diversity and richness of the culture of India lends a festive air to the occasion.
The event begins with the Prime Minister of India laying a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate, commemorating all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. Soon, 21 gun salute is presented, the President unfurls the National Flag and the National Anthem is played.
After the national anthem is played the President gives awards for bravery and varied acts of valour to men and women in the armed forces. This is finally followed by a parade of regiments from the armed forces and floats representing the various cultures of India. The parade ends with a fly-past by Indian Air Force jets.
Ceremonies are also held in all the state capitals and flag-hoisting ceremonies are organised by all schools that are compulsory for all children to attend.
It is held for three days.
